We celebrated Arizona’s 104th Statehood Day on February 14th, 2016 with a performance of,

Arizona  Territory, by Richard Warren at Tempe Center for the Arts for a very appreciative  audience and a live  global broadcast on KTAR News 92.3 FM. If you missed the live broadcast, fear  not. We have a new podcast, and we would love it if you gave it a listen.

This radio version was adapted from Augustus Thomas’ 1899 stage play Arizona, and it is the  Arizona version of Downton Abbey. Set in the  summer of 1898, the desires of two daughters of a  wealthy widowed cattle rancher are  pitted against  the temptations of the men of the United States  Cavalry. One daughter is married to a  much older  colonel who favors his military duties over his  marital duties. The other is head-over-heals  in love with  a young lieutenant who risks losing her to  defend her sister’s honor. A villainous captain  attempts to  destroy all three until a Mexican cowboy  with his own concerns intercedes. “

Under the direction of Tyler, the cast is comprised of some of Arizona’s finest actors including Cathy  Dresbach, Terey Summers, Joe Kremer, David Barker, Larry Soller, Tim Shawver, Emily Mohney,  Mark DeMichele, Brian Nissen, Franc Gaxiola, and one of Arizona’s all-time favorites Pat McMahon.

This is the second Statehood Day broadcast produced by ACTF. During February 2015, it presented  Escape From Papago Park! at the Arizona Historical Society Museum in Tempe at Papago Park.   it  was broadcast live on KTAR News Radio 92.3 FM in front of a sold out audience.

Tyler says, “It was such a blast, we immediately committed to making this an annual event. Arizona’s  Statehood has not gotten its due as a special day and this is our way of changing that. There are  hundreds of fascinating Arizona stories, and, with our partner KTAR News, we can bring them to   thousands of people.”
